My granddaughter Mia’s second birthday party had a “Finding Nemo” theme complete with Nemo and his friends swimming away into the big ocean in plastic bags.

The graphic that I used for the invitation cards was such a sweet image of Nemo, so I decided to use this image for the cake. It took some “cutting and pasting” to get it just right, but in the end the 4 hours that I spend on it, was worth it.
Peach the starfish:
Home made biscuits were cut and decorated with icing to represent seaweed and other characters from the movie.
The table was turned into the bottom of the ocean by covering the tablecloth with blue cellophane and decorated with coarse and fine salt, colored with food coloring to make rocks and sand, as well as seashells.
To color salt:- Put some salt into a glass bottle, add a drop of food coloring, seal and shake until all the salt is covered, dry on newspapers. Start with only a drop of food coloring, you can always add more to make a darker color.
Empty tuna cans covered with two/three layers of crinkle paper and tissue paper were used for the anemones.
I found pictures/graphics of many of the Nemo characters on the internet. I colored, printed and laminated them and used it to decorate the gazebo and a few of them “escaped in plastic bags into the ocean”
The bottoms of blue plastic bottles and a few strings of coloured cellophane turned into jellyfish.
Bruce the shark:- Mini hotdog buns were used to make them. Unfortunately the buns broke when we tried to insert vienna sausages, so we sliced them open on top and filled it with some grated cheese as well. Triangular shaped chips were used for the fins and jelly teeth candy completed the image.
Some of the buns were also turned into crabs by attaching jelly sweets on top for the eyes.
Bloat the puffer fish: Baked fish nuggets and potato sticks.
Pearl, the sweet little squid:- pink marshmallows snipped with scissors and glued to the biscuits with a dab of icing and further decorations with icing and some sugar-coated jelly sweets.
