Mia’s Finding Nemo Theme Party

At age 2 my granddaughter’s favorite DVD was Finding Nemo, so when her mother and I planned her birthday party, it was only natural to use this theme and build the whole party around it – from the invitations right down to a swimming pool filled with floating Finding Nemo characters.

After you have decided on a theme for your kid’s birthday party and completed a list of all the supplies that you will need, it is also a good idea to first take a look at items that you have in your house that can be used for decorations before you go shopping.

When my daughter turned 21 a few years ago, I turned empty tuna cans into lovely candlestick holders by filling it with oasis floral foam. Not only did it hold the candle securely but I could also arrange flowers around the candle.

With Mia’s birthday these empty cans were turned into anenomes with the aid of a few strips of crinkle paper.

The bottoms of empty plastic soft drink bottles became jellyfish. I used a paper punch to make the holes for the cellophane strips.

Shells and colored salt were used for to give an image of the bottom of the sea.

The plastic wading pool and balls she received for her first birthday came in quite well with the Finding Nemo theme and a neighbour kindly lend us her kiddie pool slide and swing.

Don’t rush out to buy new items every year for your kids theme parties, with imagination, creativity and a little hard work, you can be the coolest mum on the block!

Take a look at the photos of the Finding Nemo Theme Party I planned for Mia.
