Winter Wonderland, A Snow-filled Kid’s Party Theme… The Decorations

Colour Scheme for Snow PartyFollowing on from the previous post about a snow party for your child’s birthday, here are some decoration ideas:

This party theme lends itself well to a white and green colour scheme with touches of silver.

Use a white tablecloth (or a piece of white fabric) on the party table and using fabric glue, paste elongated green felt triangles on the edge of the tablecloth to resemble trees. Sew or glue a few ready-made silver pompoms to the edge just for fun.

Scatter silver and green confetti on the tablecloth for extra decoration.

Place green paper trees around the snow village houses (instructions for a snow village will be given in a next post) and on the table.

To make one tree:

Use the template to cut out two tree shapes from green cardstock. Cut along the dotted lines and slot one tree shape into the other. Position the pieces at right angles and the tree will stand upright.

See the tree template further down – simply click on it to open in a new window, right-click and save the image to your computer, insert into a graphics program, print and use. – Don’t forget to hit your browser’s back button to read the rest of the post!

Snowmen decorations

Scatter small snowmen around the cake and over the table for a festive wintry atmosphere.

Glue two ready-made pompoms, (or make your own),  one slightly bigger than the other, to each other. Make a face on the small pompom – follow the method given for the invitation-carrying snowman. Glue a twig to each side of the large pompom to make arms.

Cut paper snowmen and string them together to use as a banner at your front door. Download the template in the same way as the paper tree templates.

Cut paper snowflakes and hang them from the ceiling, in front of the windows and against the walls. Turn this into a party activity by letting the guests help you to cut and hang the snowflake.

Make mock snow:

Mix 125ml (half a cup) of icing sugar with 125ml white soap powder. Add a little water and beat until fluffy. “Pile” it up on window sills outside for a real snow effect

Give your windows a wintry look with this recipe:

Dissolve 4 heaping tablespoons of Epsom salts in one cup of beer. This will foam. Let set for at least 30 minutes. The salt crystals will partially dissolve.

Apply to window. This can be done with a 5 cm (2 inch) paint brush, but for a nicer effect, dip a facial tissue or terry cloth in the liquid and wipe over the window as if you were washing it. Then while the window is still wet go back and dab and pat at the glass with the wet tissue.

Mixture dries to form beautiful crystals. This looks even better the next day, and lasts a long time. It can be washed off with water and a cloth and is easily reapplied.

Plastic Bottle Snowmen:

Make snowmen from empty 2 litre pop bottles to welcome the party guests at the front door.

That’s it for the decoration ideas for a snow themed party. Even if you are living in a part of the world where t never snows, nothing stops you from having this kind of party for your child’s next birthday.
